CORRESPONDENCE

The board received a letter from Human Resources regarding temporary permits.  The Human Resource’s job register requires social workers to be licensed prior to being placed on the register.  The social work law requires applicants to be graduated prior to the issuing of a permit.  This is a problem for social workers seeking state jobs prior to graduation.  The board directed Mary Curran to write a letter to Human Resources letting them know the social work laws regarding the issuing of a permit.

Certified Social Worker, CSW-729 requested approval of clinical supervision hours received from a supervisor that was not pre-approved.  The board denied the request.

SOCIAL WORK IN LONG TERM CARE FACILITIES

The Social Work Board met August 1, 2000 with interested parties regarding social work services in long-term care facilities.  There were twenty-one (21) present to discuss the issues involved.  Senator Grant Ipsen was asked to carry legislation that would stay the sunset provision in the current law for another year.  This will give more time to come to agreement on a workable solution regarding social services in long-term care facilities.  Meetings have been scheduled for the third Friday for the next eleven months.

The meeting adjourned at 11:15 August 1, 2000.
