HEARING AID DEALERS AND FITTERS BOARD MEETING

May 10, 2001

Chairman Brockett called the meeting to order at 1:00p.m.

Steven Rademacher moved to approve the minutes of November 11, 2000 board meeting and March 21, 2001 conference call. Dr. Cooper seconded the motion, motion carried.

Kirsten Wallace reported on the two recent hearings. The Findings of Fact and Conclusions of Law, and the Recommended Order will be sent from the hearing officers as soon as they are completed.

Steven Rademacher moved to go into executive session to discuss matters of possible litigation and to discuss files exempt from public disclosure. Dr. Cooper seconded the motion, motion carried.

Steve Rademacher moved to come out of executive session. Dr. Gasser seconded the motion, motion carried.

Steve Rademacher moved to accept the recommendations presented by Kirsten Wallace for cases HAD P3B 01 00 012 and HAD P3C 01 00 019. Dr. Cooper seconded the motion, motion carried.

Steve Rademacher moved to accept the recommendation presented by Kirsten Wallace for case HAD L2B 01 00 007. Dr. Gasser seconded the motion, motion carried.

Steve Rademacher moved to accept the recommendation presented by Kirsten Wallace for case HAD P3 01 00 017. Dr. Cooper seconded the motion, motion carried.

Tom Limbaugh presented the financial report showing a positive balance of $17,937.43. The Board is over budget due to the expense of the hearings.

Senator Lynn Whitworth was invited to observe the examination to obtain first-hand information about the process and Board member involvement. Randell Brown’s request to observe the examination on Friday, May 11, 2001 was granted.

Steven Rademacher moved to go into executive session to discuss records exempt from public disclosure (HAD 03 22 01 DKT). Dr. Cooper seconded the motion, motion carried.

Dr. Cooper moved to come out of executive session. Steve Rademacher seconded the motion, motion carried.

Budd Hetrick presented the proposed renewal forms for Board approval. Dr. Gasser moved to accept the affidavit as an acceptable means of documenting the continuing education requirement with a 10% audit of CEU’s. Steve Rademacher seconded the motion, motion carried.

Disposable Hearing Aids

Discussion was held on disposable hearing aids concerning the lack of a serial number to record on a receipt, and the 30-day trial period.

Dr. Gasser moved to table the issue of disposable hearing aids. Dr. Cooper seconded the motion, motion carried.

Continuing Education

The Board by consensus stands by the Rule to accept only NIHIS or ASHA sponsored programs for continuing education credits.

Board Business File

The business file was cleared with no action taken.

The quarterly reports were reviewed.

RULES FOR EXAMINATION

Additional rules will be necessary for the new examination that is now in use. Roger Hales will draft rules for the Board to review.

The next meeting will be held on November 8, 2001 and the examination on November 9, 2001.

Wall certificates, travel vouchers and minute book were signed.

The Board prepared for the examination to be given on May 11, 2001. Ten candidates will be examined.

Dr. Cooper moved to issue a temporary permit. Steve Rademacher seconded the motion, motion carried.

The Board, by consensus, moved to terminate five files for lack of activity.

The meeting adjourned at 4:21p.m.
