Minutes of June 11, 1999 meeting

 

Roll Call: Von Dickinson, Chairman; Robert Skinner; Al Lopez, Jr.; Frank Harris; 

Absent/Excused: Kay Youngerman

Also Present: Carmen Westberg, Bureau Chief; Budd Hetrick, Deputy Bureau Chief; John Kersey, Supervising Investigator; Roger Hales, Administrative Attorney; Janice Wiedrick, Secretary

Chairman Von Dickinson called the meeting to order at 9:05a.m.

Al Lopez, Jr. moved to approve the minutes of April 2, 1999 meeting as read. Frank Harris seconded the motion, motion carried.

Discussion was held on changes to the rules. The changes are:

Rule 150.01 change to the first Friday in June and second Friday in January

Rule 150.03 Strike the word "oral".

Rule 150.04 Strike the sentence "The oral examination results may not adjust an average score downward but may add two (2) percentage points to the average score when the board rules the examination passed."

Rule 200.01 add the word for after the word "over."

Rule 200.03 Strike the paragraph "Application form for competency exam. Applications for the competency examination shall be made on forms approved by the board and furnished by the Bureau of Occupational Licenses and shall include all other documentation necessary to establish the applicant's internship equivalency except for examination."

Rule 250.02 Strike the sentences: "Competency application and exam fee. Competency application and examination fee-Three Hundred dollars.

Rule 300.a Add the words as a denture lab technician after the word "internship."

Rule 300.b Add the words denture lab after the word "a."

Rule 300.d Strike the sentence " Five (5) years experience in denturitry attested to by affidavits sworn to by three (3) responsible adult citizens excluding close relatives and clergy."

Frank Harris moved to add to the rules that Home Study and correspondence courses are not to be used for continuing education credits, as there is not an instructor present. Al Lopez, Jr. seconded the motion, motion carried.

Rule 350.04 Add the sentence "Correspondence or Home Study courses shall not be eligible for continuing education credits."

Rule 550 Delete the words "whose practice of denturitry" and replace with the word who, and delete the word "fitting".

Al Lopez, Jr. moved to approve the changes in the rules and to have the Bureau proceed with the rule changes, Frank Harris seconded the motion, motion carried.

Carmen Westberg, Bureau Chief, presented the financial report to the Board. The report shows a positive balance of $20,582.92.

The contract with the Bureau will be distributed to the board as soon as it has been completed.

Discussion was held on the continuing education requirement and those who have not turned in the CE. A conference call may be required to discuss the continuing education credits turned in by individuals.

John Kersey, Supervising Investigator, reported there are no complaints and no investigations at this time. The inspections of denture labs have been completed for this year and will be conducted yearly. Mr. Kersey is invited to attend the Association meeting in Idaho Falls on September 24-25, 1999 for discussion of Bureau policy on investigations and complaints.

Having no further business before them, the meeting adjourned at 11:30a.m.
