Licensure Application Process


In 2005 Idaho Code was amended to combine the Idaho Hearing Aid Dealer and Fitter Board with the Idaho Speech & Hearing Services Licensure Board. In 2017, the Board's name was changed to the Idaho Speech, Hearing and Communication Services Licensure Board. This Board regulates the professions of Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology, and Hearing Aid Dealing & Fitting.  

Idaho law requires the licensure of all persons who practice or offer to practice as a Speech-Language Pathologist, Audiologist, or Hearing Aid Dealer and Fitter in the State of Idaho. Licensure is available through both endorsement and examination. 

NOTE:  Hearing Aid Dealer and Fitters  Applicants: You are required to take and pass both a theory and practical examination. The International Licensing Examination (ILE) for Hearing Healthcare Professionals theory exam is a computer based examination.  Once you have applied to the Board and been approved for examination, the International Hearing Society (IHS) will send instructions to you on how to register and pay for this examination.  There is a $225 fee for this examination, which is payable directly to the testing company. You will receive instructions from the Board on taking the practical exam after you have passed the ILE.  If you have any questions, please contact the Board at SHS@ibol.idaho.gov.

The education, experience, and examination requirements are specific for each type of license and should be reviewed carefully before beginning the application process. You should review the applicable laws and rules for the complete licensure requirements. 

Once you obtain the application, be sure to read all of the application instructions and questions carefully. Several questions, if answered Yes, require additional documentation. You are required to contact the source of the required documentation and request that said documentation be sent directly to the Board office at the address below.  If the source will not provide the documentation, or the documentation is otherwise unobtainable, you must submit a written explanation and any documents in your possession that would assist the Board in reviewing your application.  All requested information, the application fee, and the initial license fee must be provided.  Failure to provide a complete application will result in a delay in the licensure process.  Applications will be reviewed by the Board only after all required documentation and fees have been received and the application is otherwise complete.

Your completed application will be reviewed by the State Board at their regularly scheduled board meeting. You will be notified in writing of the status of your application.

All applicants must complete and submit an application with the required documentation and appropriate fees.
