For a full review of the Board's requirements, please review Rule 300. You should review these rules regarding continuing education before signing up for any continuing education offerings.

If you would like to obtain Board approval for a course or seminar, please submit a Continued Education Approval Form. Please note, you may verify Board approval by accessing the links below.

The Board conducts annual audits to ensure compliance with the continuing education requirements.  Audits may be initiated anytime after you renew your license.  By signing your renewal application, and answering "Yes" to the question that you have met the continuing education requirements, you are certifying to the Board that you have already obtained proof of having completed the required continuing education.

IF YOU HAVE NOT YET MET THE CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENT, DO NOT SUBMIT A RENEWAL APPLICATION INDICATING THAT YOU HAVE.  Submitting a fraudulent application for licensure is grounds for discipline against your right to practice.

If you are audited, you must submit a listing of all continuing education courses completed during the previous year AND proof of attendance documentation for each course.  Continuing education hours accumulated during the twelve (12) months immediately preceding the license expiration date may be applied toward meeting the continuing education requirement for the next license renewal. Effective January 1, 2017, each optometrist licensed by the State of Idaho shall attend in each calendar year prior to license renewal a minimum of eighteen (18) hours of approved optometric continuing education courses or meetings. At least six (6) hours of the continuing education must be in courses involving ocular pharmacology and/or advanced ocular disease. In addition to the 18 hours of required continuing education, each certified optometrist must complete a refresher course in CPR during each two (2) year period following certification and shall list and describe the course attended and the dates of attendance. Up to six (6) hours in excess of the required hours may be carried forward. Excess hours may be used only during the next renewal period and may not be carried forward more than one (1) time.  If you are audited and you carried forward hours, you must submit complete documentation for both the audit period and for the previous year.

NOTE: Those individuals holding non-therapeutic licenses (licenses beginning with OD or ODD) are required to complete a minimum of twelve (12) hours of approved optometric continuing education courses or meetings

Failure to submit the required documentation may result in Board action against your right to licensure.
