Q: What is the difference between a Trainee Permit and Certification?
A: The board may require the holder of a Trainee Permit to practice only under supervision, and may limit the scope of practice depending on education. Certification is the form of licensure allowing acupuncture practice that is issued to health care providers already licensed in another profession.
Q: What is the difference between Certification and Licensure?
A: Certification was created for practitioners who hold another professional license. The scope of practice for Certification and Licensure are the same.
Q: What is the amount of continuing education required to maintain my Acupuncture license, and what courses are approved by the board?
A: All licensees must obtain 15 hours of continuing education annually. Licensees must sign and affidavit that states they have 15 hours of continuing education; a minimum of ten (10) hours of continuing education from Category I topics, and a maximum of five (5) hours of continuing education from Category II topics. Please refer to Rule 306 to clarify what courses are approved by the Board.
Q: I have let my license lapse, what must I do to activate that license?
A: All expired licenses can be reinstated for up to five years. A license that has been lapsed less than five years may be reinstated upon submission of a renewal application together with the payment of all back renewal fees, the required re-instatement fee, and proof of completion of continuing education. If the license has been lapsed for more than a year but less than five, the license may be reinstated upon submission of 15 hours of continuing education. If it has been lapsed for more than a year but less than five, proof of 30 hours is required. See Rule 306 for more information. If a license has been lapsed for more than five years, a new application for licensure is required. Please contact the Bureau.
Q: I am applying for licensure in another state and they require verification of my license in Idaho. What do I need to do?
A: Send a written request to: The Bureau of Occupational Licenses, 700 West State St, PO Box 83720, ID 83720-0063 along with a $10.00 processing fee, and the address of the office that requires the verification. We will send the verification directly to that state.
