Minutes of May 3, 2000

The Idaho State Board of Acupuncture conference call was called to order at 8:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 3, 2000 at the Bureau of Occupational Licenses, Owyhee Plaza, 1109 Main Street, Suite 220, Boise, Idaho.

Roll Call: Emi Miller, Chair; Maggie Blair; Rand Peebles; Jack Long; Tess Hahn

Bureau Staff: Thomas E. Limbauh, Bureau Chief; Budd Hetrick, Deputy Bureau Chief; Roger Hales, Administrative Attorney; Dee Ann Randall, Administrative Secretary

The purpose of the conference call is to discuss proposed temporary rules and to discuss the requirements for fellowship in the International Academy of Medical Acupuncture, according to the law.

The Board reviewed and discussed a draft of proposed rule changes in definitions, qualifications for licensure and certification and acupuncture technician, fees, renewal or reinstatement of license. Revisions were made and another draft will be forwarded to the Board for review.

The Board discussed with and asked for assistance from Roger Hales regarding the requirements for fellowship of the International Academy of Medical Acupuncture, Inc. After discussion, the following motion was made: Moved by Tess Hahn, seconded by Rand Peebles and carried that the Bureau send a second letter to previously notified individuals, clarifying the requirements for certification that are effective until June 30, 2000. The Bureau will also notify appropriate associations of the requirements and of the time frame for applying for certification.

Moved by Tess Hahn, seconded by Rand Peebles and carried to add to the above motion to inform those applicants that, until June 30, 2000, applicants may be considered for certification as an acupuncturist if they can document completion of the 100 hours fellowship course from IAMA, ASA or other organizations. Emi Miller will review the letter prior to its being mailed.

Dr. Long asked when the renewal notices would be mailed. Mr. Hetrick informed him they would be mailed approximately May 15, 2000. 

Moved by Tess Hahn, seconded by Dr. Long and carried that the conference call adjourn at 9:30 a.m.
