Appraiser Trainee Registration
The Real Estate Appraiser Laws and Rules have been amended to include rules governing the registration and limitations of real estate appraiser trainees (see Idaho Code 54-4106(2)(i) and Rule 430).
After July 1, 2003 ONLY experience obtained as a Registered Trainee shall be credited towards the experience required for licensure. The education and experience requirements, as well as the requirements for supervising appraisers, are outlined by Board Rule.
Section 54-4106(2)(i), Idaho Code, became effective July 1, 2001. The new section allowed the Board to adopt rules governing the registration and limitations of Registered Trainees.

Requirements for Registered Trainees:
Education requirements (Rule 275)
75 hours of courses as follows:
> 30 hours in Basic Appraisal Procedures;
> 30 hours in Basic Appraisal Principles; and
> 15 hours of National USPAP course.
All courses must be in person. On-line courses or distance learning courses will not be accepted by the Board. Credit will only be given for Board Approved courses.Registered Trainee Continuing Education. The purpose of continuing education is to ensure that the trainee participates in a program that maintains and increases skill, knowledge and competence in real estate appraising.
Trainees are NOT required to have additional education during their first year as a Registered Trainee. Each Registered Trainee must obtain the equivalent of 15 classroom hours of instruction in approved courses or seminars during the twelve (12) month period before to the second renewal of the trainee's permit.
Credit may be obtained for attending Board meetings. Credit may be obtained no more than once a year and is limited to two (2) hours per year. You must sign in at the Board meeting to receive credit.
