License Renewal
Application to renew your
license must be made before your birth date each year in order for your license
to remain valid. You bear the total responsibility of insuring that a timely
and complete renewal application is submitted. Failure to
submit a completed
application to renew your license before the expiration date
will result in the cancellation of your license.
The most efficient way to
submit your renewal application and payment of fees is through the
ONLINE renewal system. There are no additional fees for this service.
License renewal
applications are mailed approximately six weeks before the license expiration
date. This renewal notice is sent to your mailing address of record and
MUST BE COMPLETED AND RETURNED WITH PAYMENT. If you do not receive a
renewal notice, you may contact the Bureau
to confirm your mailing address and have a duplicate notice sent to you. Failure
to receive a renewal form does not exempt you from the renewal requirement.
Do not wait until the last minute to request a duplicate.
When submitting your
renewal application to the Bureau office, you must include responses to all
questions, your social security number, your signature and the appropriate fee(s)
before the expiration of your license. Do not send cash through the mail.
Returned checks will be subject to a $20.00 collection fee.
NOTE: If you fail to renew your license before the expiration date, your license WILL be canceled. Renewals postmarked on or after the expiration date must include a $25.00 reinstatement fee in addition to the regular renewal fee. The reinstatement fee is required by §67-2614, Idaho Code and cannot be waived. All questions regarding the reinstatement fee must be submitted by letter or e-mail. Phone calls regarding this matter will NOT be returned.
The annual renewal fee is $250.00.
Continuing education is required to maintain a license to practice as a real estate appraiser in Idaho. A total of 15 hours of continuing education must be obtained and documented each year.
In addition, each licensee must complete a 7 hour USPAP update course once every two years from the previous license renewal.
Trainee Continuing Education. Prior to the second renewal of an appraiser trainee registration, each trainee must obtain the equivalent of 15 classroom hours of instruction in approved courses or seminars during the twelve (12) month period preceding the renewal. Credit may be granted for participation, other than as a student, in appraisal educational processes and programs. Examples of activities for which credit may be granted are teaching, program development, authorship of textbooks, or similar activities that are determined to be equivalent to obtaining continuing education. The purpose of continuing education is to ensure that the trainee participates in a program that maintains and increases skill, knowledge and competence in real estate appraising.
It is the licensee's responsibility to maintain documentary evidence of compliance with the CE requirements. The Board will conduct random audits to insure compliance with the continuing education requirements. DO NOT SEND CONTINUING EDUCATION DOCUMENTATION TO THE BUREAU UNLESS YOU ARE BEING AUDITED.
CONTINUING EDUCATION AUDITS
The Board conducts regular continuing education audits. The audit selection is completely random. Each time a license is renewed, it is eligible to be selected for an audit. It is possible to be audited more than once within the same calendar year depending on your renewal dates.
The audit period is 12 months prior to the date the license was renewed. You are asked on the renewal form if you have completed a minimum of 15 hours of continuing education during the previous 12 months, and a 7 hour USPAP Update course within the previous 24 months. This is a sworn affidavit. If the you mark YES and sign the renewal, you are telling the Board that you have completed the required CE during the previous 12 months. If you mark NO, a letter is sent informing you that CE is required and your license cannot be renewed until you obtain the required hours of CE. If you wait until after your license expiration date, you must also submit proof of CE attendance with your renewal application.
Upon renewal you may be asked to submit completion certificates for fifteen hours of continuing education obtained during the previous twelve months (see Board rule 401). If you submit your renewal application prior to your expiration date, your CE Audit period will be prior to your expiration date. For example, if you submit your renewal application on 7/15/2007, and your expiration date is 7/30/2007, your audit period will be between 7/15/2006 through 7/15/2007. Upon renewal you may also be asked to submit a completion certificate for a 7 hour USPAP Update course obtained during the previous twenty four months (see Board rule 401.02.d).
When you receive an audit notice, you have 30 days to complete the CE chart and submit it with copies of official certificates of completion. NOTE. The notice must be completed, signed, and dated. Disciplinary action will be taken against licensees who fail to comply with the CE requirement.
CE providers may obtain Board approval by submitting a completed Continued Education Approval Form.
If you have questions about the CE requirements, you may e-mail the Bureau office.
