PRE-LICENSURE EDUCATION
All applicants for licensure/certification in any real estate appraiser classification must meet the following requirements in addition to those requirements set forth in Sections 300, 350, and 400. All applicants for trainee registration must meet the following requirements regarding education in addition to those requirements set forth in Rule 430.
NOTICE: Effective January 1, 2008, the education requirements for licensure will change. A Criteria Implementation DVD video stream is now available on the Foundation web site. Credit toward the classroom hour pre-licensure requirement may only be granted where the length of the educational offering is at least fifteen (15) hours, and the individual successfully completes an examination pertinent to the educational offering.
Credit for the pre-licensure education requirement may be obtained from the following:
Colleges or Universities
Community or Junior Colleges
Appraisal Qualification Board
State or Federal Agencies or Commissions
Various appraisal courses may be credited toward the classroom hour education requirement. Applicants must demonstrate that their education involved coverage of all topics listed below. Licensed Residential and Certified Residential must include emphasis in one (1) to four (4) unit residential properties; Certified General must include emphasis in nonresidential properties.

Advanced courses usually require an introductory or basic course as a prerequisite. Typically classes titled "Introductory," "Basic," or "Principles" will not meet the requirements upgraded licensure.
CONTINUING EDUCATION
Each licensee is required to obtain fifteen (15) classroom hours of continuing education every 12 months prior to license renewal. This includes the requirement to attend an approved seven (7) hour USPAP update course once every two (2) years.
Registered Trainees are required to obtain 15 hours of continuing education 12 months prior to their 2ND renewal.
Credit toward the continuing education requirement may be granted only where the length of the educational offering is at least two (2) hours.
Credit towards the continuing education requirement may be obtained by attending accredited courses that have been approved by the Appraisal Qualification Board or by courses approved by Real Estate Appraiser Boards of states with reciprocity with Idaho. All other courses must have approval of the Board. Applications for Board approval require documentation including the instructors and their qualifications, course content, length of course, and its location. Courses shall be approved for a period of four (4) years.
Courses may be approved for pre-licensure education (PL) or continuing education (CE) or both (PL/CE).
National USPAP Instructors & Courses
Only those courses completed preceding the date of application will be accepted for meeting educational requirements.
Course credits which are obtained from the course provider by challenge examination without attending the course will not be accepted.
Provider Information
Providers wishing to have other courses and/or instructors approved by the Board must submit FOR EACH COURSE:
- a detailed Education Approval Application AND
- the requested documentation AND
- a completed REA Education Matrix (it is recommended that you save this form to your own computer before completing it).
Please identify whether your course offering is for pre-licensure education, continuing education, or both. NOTE: New Course Provider Requirements as of January 1, 2008.
