The Idaho Real Estate Appraisal Board is providing this notice that the Appraiser Qualifications Board (AQB) changes will become effective in Idaho on January 1, 2008. The appraisal board has adopted the "segmented" approach to these changes. The following are some frequently asked questions regarding the changes and the segmented approach:

What is the "segmented" approach? The requirements are broken down into three segments (or components: education, experience, and examination. An applicant would have to meet the Criteria in effect at the time he or she completes a particular component. Any component completed prior to January 1, 2008, would have to satisfy the current Criteria. Any component not completed by January 1, 2008, would have to conform to the 2008 Criteria.

For example, if your education was completed for the license you are applying for before 12/31/2007, you will have met that requirement even if your application is not approved until after 1/1/2008. Note, you will have to take the new AQB exam after 1/1/2008.

What happens if I miss the December 31, 2007, deadline? There is no grey area here. You must have completed the required education that has been approved by the Idaho Real Estate Appraisal Board by this deadline. There are no exceptions

What about the experience requirements? You must meet the experience requirements in place at the time that you apply for licensure. There are no exceptions

What about the exam requirements? You must take the exam being given at the time you are approved to take it. The exam changes significantly on January 1, 2008, and you will be required to pass this exam. There are no exceptions

Applicants that are close to meeting their education requirements or are able to take large amounts of coursework between now and the end of the year will be able to take advantage of the "segmented" approach where they can apply for licensure after December 31, 2007, under the "old" requirements for education if it is completed as of December 31, 2007, but will still have to meet the experience and exam requirements in effect after December 31, 2007.

Further information regarding the new AQB requirements and the segmented approach can be found at www.appraisalfoundation.org.
