LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS

Following are the licensure requirements after to January 1, 2008. Below is a summary of requirements of each license. Please refer to the specific sections of the rules for details on each specific license. If you are a registered trainee and meet any of the requirements for a specific license, you may apply for that license.      

    Licensed Residential Appraiser (Rule 300)

                           150 hours of courses

                           2,000 hours of experience credits

                           Approval of work samples (two work samples are randomly selected by the board from the experience log)*

                           Passage of exam after education and experience is approved by board

 

                  Certified Residential Appraiser (Rule 350)

                           200 hours of courses

                           Associate college degree or higher (see Rule 350.01.a – add link – for specifics and in lieu requirements)

                           2,500 hours of experience credits

                           Approval of work samples (two work samples are randomly selected by the board from the experience log)*

                           Passage of exam after education and experience is approved by board

 

                  Certified General Appraiser (Rule 400)

                           300 hours of courses

                           Bachelor college degree or higher (see Rule 400.01.a – add link – for specifics and in lieu requirements)

                           3,000 hours of experience credits

                           Approval of work samples (two work samples are randomly selected by the board from the experience log)*

                           Passage of exam after education and experience is approved by board

                          

* With regard to work samples, the board will generally select the work samples that appear to be the most representative of the applicant’s work experience. The samples must demonstrate competency in appraisal preparation and include representations of each approach to value. The Board may request that the applicant supplement the samples with those approaches. Please refer to the work sample checklist for items that would typically be required or included in a work sample. 

 All applicants for licensure must meet the requirements outlined in Rule 250 in addition to those set forth above.

            Pre-licensure courses must be pre-approved by the board. The courses must be at least 15 hours in length, with an exam, and Idaho requires all pre-licensure education to be taken in person.  On-line courses or any form of distance education is not acceptable for pre-licensure credit.  Please be sure to note whether the Board approved courses are approved for “pre-licensure” or “continuing education”.  

            ONLY appraiser experience obtained as a Registered Trainee or licensed appraiser shall be credited towards licensure. Only experience gained during the five years immediately preceding application will be considered. You may download the Experience Log Instructions and the Experience Log.
