License Renewal

Application to renew your license must be made before your birth date each year in order for your license to remain valid. You bear the total responsibility of insuring that a timely and complete renewal application is submitted. Failure to submit a completed application to renew your license before the expiration date will result in the cancellation of your license.  Reinstatement of a cancelled license requires additional documentation and a $25.00 reinstatement fee in addition to the regular renewal fee.

The most efficient way to submit your renewal application and payment of fees is through the ONLINE renewal system. There are no additional fees for this service.

License renewal applications are mailed approximately six weeks before the license expiration date.  This renewal notice is sent to your mailing address of record and MUST BE COMPLETED AND RETURNED WITH PAYMENT.  If you do not receive a renewal notice, you may contact the Bureau to confirm your mailing address and have a duplicate notice sent to you.  Failure to receive a renewal form does not exempt you from the renewal requirement.  Do not wait until the last minute to request a duplicate.

When submitting your renewal application to the Bureau office, you must include responses to all questions, your social security number, your signature and the appropriate fee(s) before the expiration of your license.  Do not send cash through the mail. Returned checks will be subject to a $20.00 collection fee.

NOTE: If you fail to renew your license before the expiration date, your license WILL be canceled. Renewals postmarked on or after the expiration date must include a $25.00 reinstatement fee in addition to the regular renewal fee. The reinstatement fee is required by §67-2614, Idaho Code and cannot be waived. All questions regarding the reinstatement fee must be submitted by letter or e-mail. Phone calls regarding this matter will NOT be returned.

The annual renewal fee is $300.00.

Annual Renewals for Service Extenders and Supervisors

As a part of the current renewal period, the Board would like to draw your attention to the rules governing the employment of psychology service extenders.

Please note that licensed psychologists who utilize service extenders must comply with the rules for registering them with the Board within thirty days after employment. Additionally, the Board must be notified, in writing, within thirty days of the termination of the employment of any service extender. Of particular concern at this renewal time is the impact of Board Rule 450.03. "Conditions for Use of Service Extenders." This rule specifically addresses the requirements for any psychologist who utilizes service extenders.

Documentation of supervisory contact, hours of supervision, hours of extender services, and plan of supervision shall be maintained by the supervisor for not less than three (3) years for each service extender and submitted to the Board upon request.

The Board recommends that supervisors use the Weekly Supervisory Notes form and the Annual Supervisory Log form as aids in meeting the reporting requirements.

PLEASE BE ADVISED, ANY FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF THIS RULE COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF YOUR ABILITY TO UTILIZE SERVICE EXTENDERS AND/OR THE FILING OF A DISCIPLINARY PROCEEDING AGAINST YOUR CONTINUED RIGHT TO LICENSURE.

The annual Service Extender renewal fee is $100.00.

Continuing Education

The annual completion of 20 hours of continuing education (CE) is required to maintain a license to practice psychology in Idaho.  Newly licensed individuals will be considered to have satisfied the CE requirements for the remainder of the year in which their license is granted.  The guidelines for acceptable CE credits are summarized below.  Complete guidelines may be found in Rule 400. -  402. of the Administrative Rules.

GUIDELINES FOR APPROVAL OF CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS.

CE credit will be given for attendance at formally organized workshops or classes, with an attendance roster and pre-assigned CE credit, offered in association with or under the auspices of:
. Regionally accredited colleges or universities or
. The American Psychological Association or
. A regional psychological association or
. A state psychological association.

Credit will be given only as pre-authorized by the sponsoring entity.
Six (6) hours of CE credit per year may also be allowed for:

1 - documented attendance at regional, national, and international meetings of psychological organizations.
2 - other relevant workshops, classes or training experiences which are conducted by a licensed or reputable psychologist or other mental health professional.
3 - presentation of papers at meetings of professional psychological associations.
4 - individual study, lectures, publication, and presentation.

Each Idaho licensed psychologist must sign an affidavit, certifying that the CE requirements have been met, before the license will be renewed.  The affidavit appears on the renewal form. The Board will conduct random audits to insure compliance with the continuing education requirements.  Documentation of your completion of the required CE must be provided if requested.

AUDITS

The Board conducts annual audits to insure compliance with the continuing education requirements.  Audits may be initiated anytime after you renew your license.  By signing your renewal application, and answering "Yes" to the question that you have met the continuing education requirements, you are certifying to the Board that you have already obtained proof of having completed the required continuing education.

IF YOU HAVE NOT YET MET THE CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENT, DO NOT SUBMIT A RENEWAL APPLICATION INDICATING THAT YOU HAVE.  Submitting a fraudulent application for licensure is grounds for discipline against your right to practice.

If you are audited, you must submit a listing of all continuing education courses completed during the previous year AND proof of attendance documentation for each course.  Continuing education courses not claimed for CE credit in the current renewal year, may be credited for the next renewal year. A maximum of twenty (20) hours may be carried forward from the immediately preceding year. If you are audited and you carried forward hours, you must submit complete documentation for both the audit period and for the previous year.

Failure to submit the required documentation may result in Board action against your right to licensure.

You should review the the Board rules regarding continuing education before signing up for any continuing education offerings.

If you have questions about the CE requirements, you may e-mail the Bureau office.

CE providers may obtain Board approval by submitting a completed Continued Education Approval Form.
