All applicants for examination must make application to the Bureau of Occupational Licenses.  No application will be considered complete until the following are received in the Bureau office.

        Completed application form (C-37) with a current passport photograph attached.

        Completed certification form.  You must send this form to the state in which you are currently licensed.  Your certification of licensure must be received directly from the state in which you are licensed.  If you are not licensed, your certification of training must be received directly from either the state board or the school you attended.

        Copy of birth certificate, passport, or drivers license and proof of completion of at least the tenth grade or equivalent – GED.

        Detailed list of any work experience, including employers’ names, addresses, phone numbers and dates of practice.

        Fees:

a.      $ 75.00 exam fee and;

b.      $25.00 for original license fee (cosmetology, nail technology) or

      $27.00 for original license fee (electrology and esthetics) or

      $30.00 for original license fee (instructor).

To qualify for the examination, an applicant must show proof of having obtained training equivalent to the Idaho requirements.  If you are licensed in another state, experience credit in-lieu-of-training will be allowed for each year of practical experience under license in that state as follows:  Cosmetologist – 200 hours; nail technician – 30 hours; electrologist/esthetician – 80 hours; and esthetician – 50 hours.  Experience credit will be allowed in six-month increments only, at one-half the amount noted above.   Applicants who do not meet the equivalent training requirement, must graduate from a licensed Idaho school of cosmetology.

The application deadline is thirty (30) days prior to the examination. You will be scheduled for examination based on the date your application is postmarked. The full examination consists of the NIC PRACTICAL, the NIC THEORY, and IDAHO STATE LAW (Examination Schedule).   If you are required to take the full examination you will need to contact D.L. Roope to schedule the full examination once we have notified you of your eligibility.  If you are required to take only a written portion of the examination you may present a current authorization to test from our office and schedule the examination through LaserGrade.

All incomplete applications will be returned to the sender .

NOTICE:  Returned checks are subject to a $20.00 collection fee.  Applications submitted with dishonored checks will be immediately cancelled.
