Out-of-State Applicants for Examination.

            (Barber, Barber-Stylist, and Instructor)

A.     All applicants for examination must make application to the Bureau of Occupational Licenses.  No application will be considered complete until the following are received in the Bureau office.

1.      Completed application form with a current passport photograph attached.

2.      Completed certification form.  You must send this form to the state in which you are currently licensed.  Your certification of licensure must be received directly from the state in which you are licensed.  If you are not licensed, your certification of training must be received directly from either the state board or the school you attended.

        3.   Copy of birth certificate, passport, or drivers license, and proof of completion of at least the tenth grade or equivalent – GED

        4.      Detailed list of any work experience, including employers’ names, addresses, phone numbers and dates of practice.

        5.      Fees:

a.      $ 75.00 exam fee ($100.00 for Instructor exam) and;

b.      $30.00 for original license fee.

B.   To qualify for the examination, an applicant must show proof of having graduated from an Idaho school or obtained training equivalent to the Idaho requirements in another state.  If you are licensed in another state, experience credit in-lieu-of-training will be allowed for practical experience under license in that state as follows:

    Credit of fifty (50) hours of instruction in an approved school of barbering, will be given for each three (3) months of practical experience as a licensed barber or a barber-stylist in another state, territory, possession or country. (Example: If a barber-stylist, is licensed in a state which does not have requirements equal to the requirements of Idaho, or for any other reason does not have endorsement with Idaho, such applicant is required to meet the educational requirements of Idaho.) If the applicant has completed a course of one thousand six hundred (1,600) hours of instruction in a licensed school in such other state and has one (1) year of practical experience as a licensed barber-stylist, he is considered to have completed two hundred (200) hours of instruction in school, and is eligible to take the examination for Idaho barber-stylist license.

 Applicants who do not meet the equivalent training requirement, must graduate from a licensed Idaho school of barbering.

C. The application deadline is thirty (30) days prior to the examination. You will be scheduled for examination based on the date your application is postmarked. The full examination consists of the NIC PRACTICAL, the NIC THEORY, and IDAHO STATE LAW (Examination Schedule).

All incomplete applications will be returned to the sender .

NOTICE:  Returned checks are subject to a $20.00 collection fee.  Applications submitted with dishonored checks will be immediately cancelled.
